About

Stay close to the technology. Stay clear about what matters.

Mark Lawrence

My career has moved from building industrial augmented-reality applications to leading products, advising strategic enterprise customers, and developing global technical teams.

I have always been most effective where technology, customer reality, and organizational execution meet. I enjoy understanding a complex system deeply enough to find the real issue, then translating that understanding into decisions that engineers, customers, and executives can act upon.

Leadership, to me, means more than directing the immediate work. It means building the feedback loops, knowledge, competencies, and working relationships that allow a team to carry the work forward.

Eight years in the Virginia Army National Guard, where I advanced to Sergeant, reinforced the importance of preparation, accountability, adaptability, and calm decision-making under pressure.

I am based in Williamsburg, Virginia and open to remote work and selected relocation opportunities.

Building a deterministic game universe with AI-assisted engineering workflows

Outside my professional work, I am developing a Unity-based game to explore how AI-assisted implementation can be made dependable through clear architecture, repository-level guardrails, automated testing, and human review.

Starting from a procedural universe-generation concept, I used an iterative workflow with Codex to develop a modular codebase spanning deterministic generation, serialization, validation, discovery and surveying mechanics, runtime state, navigation, and a playable exploration slice. I define the architecture and acceptance criteria, provide relevant context, review generated implementations, run tests, inspect behavior, and refine both the software and the instructions used to produce it.

12,300lines of C#
78C# source files
60production classes
14dedicated test files
88automated test cases
6Unity assembly boundaries

Approximate repository snapshot.

The development history reflects a progression from fast prototyping toward increasingly disciplined engineering: establishing the procedural-generation backbone; adding serialization, validation, and editor visualization; introducing deterministic rules and automated tests; separating universe, discovery, and gameplay responsibilities; and building observation, surveying, navigation, and exploration systems.

The most important outcome has not been raw code generation. I created repository-level operating instructions that require AI-assisted changes to follow test-driven QA, Unity performance practices, secure input handling, API documentation standards, compilation checks, and explicit verification of Unity Editor state. I also introduced Unity command-line integration to support repeatable validation and development builds.

I treat AI as a capable but untrusted implementation partner. The value of the project is learning how to combine its speed with deterministic systems, source control, automated tests, documentation, explicit verification, and accountable human judgment.
